March
Every March, I paint the magnolias budding out on the young tree in my yard , and every year it's an amazing challenge. Such delicate beauty.

Oranges and Lemons
This watercolor is my version of a 17th century Flemish still life by Justus van Huysum. I have been intrigued by this oil painting for a long time , and decided to try my version. In the original, the color has dimmed, probably due to the varnish , and there are no visible brushmarks . This, on the other hand, has strong color and the marks show, because of different pigments and process.
Fascinating !

White Turnips
I was inspired by Cezanne's still life paintings - and he is a great inspiration. Also the turnips were so creamy white , they became the the star attraction !

Breakfast
Returning to a favorite still life theme, my painting methods have changed a lot , and I find it marvelous that there still is so much to just figure out !

Fishing Boats / Santorini
In rural Greece, local fishermen bring home their catch , just pulling their boats up onto the gravelly shore in the cove, tossing the ropes onto nearby rocks.
